Wayne County Arts Alliance TREE Exhibit
Lisa Peet

Students from Wallenpaupack Area High School recently had the unique opportunity to step inside the world of professional art and creative collaboration during a visit to the WCCA Gallery in Honesdale. The trip, coordinated by Lauren McGinnis and Lisa Peet, offered students a behind‑the‑scenes look at how a gallery operates while immersing them in hands‑on studio work.

During their visit, students contributed to the construction of a large sculptural Kapok tree, which will serve as the centerpiece of the upcoming “TREE” Exhibit, scheduled to run from March 7 to April 3, 2026. "TREE" showcases artwork by over 200 students across Wallenpaupack, Wayne Highlands, and Western Wayne School District, with participants ranging from grades K-12.

This project allowed students to take part in a large‑scale community installation, developing skills in creative teamwork, problem‑solving, and exhibition planning, which are all key components of the artistic process, as well as skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

The experience gave students a firsthand understanding of how artists work with galleries, how public exhibits are built, and how collaborative art can bring communities together. Their contributions will be on full display for visitors during the exhibit’s Opening Reception on Saturday, March 7, from 1–4 PM

Be sure to mark your calendars and carve out time to visit the WCAA Gallery and Artisan shop between March 7th and April 3rd. The gallery will be open Thursdays through Sundays from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm. The gallery is located at 959 Main Street, Honesdale, PA.

Wallenpaupack Area High School extends its thanks to Debby Pollak and everyone at the Wayne County Arts Alliance for providing this meaningful experience and to the students whose enthusiasm and creativity helped bring the Kapok tree installation to life.

Nicholas Graham is the WVIA Artist of the Week
Mr. Eric Warner

The Wallenpaupack Area School District is proud to celebrate Nikko Graham, who was recently recognized by WVIA as their Artist of the Week. This well‑deserved honor highlights Nikko’s talent, dedication, and thoughtful approach to visual art.

In his featured segment, Nikko discusses his artwork “Self-Reflection,” a deeply personal painting that explores identity, emotion, and the ways we see ourselves beyond the surface. Rather than focusing on traditional realism, Nikko uses intentional exaggeration and expressive techniques to capture how he experiences his own internal world. His willingness to be honest and vulnerable through his art demonstrates maturity well beyond his years.

Nikko shares that he first fell in love with drawing at a young age before discovering painting and embracing experimentation. He describes art class as an important creative outlet—one that gives him space to decompress, express himself, and reset during the school day. For Nikko, making art is not just a hobby, but a meaningful coping tool and a form of self-discovery.

WVIA’s Artist of the Week program shines a spotlight on outstanding high school artists from across Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania, emphasizing the importance of arts education and the power of creative expression. We are proud to see Nikko’s work recognized on this platform and look forward to seeing where his artistic journey takes him next.
